Ortho Computer Systems was founded in 1982 by Dr. Bill Iversen and Dan Sargent. Its roots reach back to 1980, when Bill hired Dan to create a program for his orthodontic practice in Ames, Iowa. This program, installed in 1981, ran on a Wang SVP mini-computer.

In March, 1982 the company was founded and a more comprehensive program was written for the Apple III, chosen for its then revolutionary hard drive. The first system was sold and installed in December, 1982. In 1983, after the release of the IBM XT (the first IBM PC with a hard drive), our first PC based system was introduced. In 1985 an all-new version, called Ortho II, was released.

In September, 1986 the company was incorporated as Ortho Computer Systems, Inc. with additional stockholders Ms. Susan Matlof, Dr. Robert Scholz, and Dr. Lawrence Stone. Dan held his share of company ownership and became corporate president, while Bill relocated to Colorado and retained a minority share of company stock. The company logo was redesigned to incorporate “Ortho II”, as we were then commonly known.

Since 1986, we have progressed through six increasingly larger office configurations, into our current 11,600 sq. ft. building which was designed and built to our specifications. (In 1995, Warner Brothers rented the then unoccupied part of the Ortho II building to show dailies for the movie Twister that was being filmed in Iowa.)

In September, 1998 our product ViewPoint was launched, and our original “Ortho II” program was relabeled “OneTouch”. Since then, ViewPoint has progressed through eight annual releases, adding hundreds of new features and thousands of improvements. Today, the vast majority of Ortho II clients use ViewPoint. OneTouch represents our past, but we still support it. We don't abandon our clients.

But what excites us is the future. New technologies are allowing us to develop excellent new software. We look forward to many years of continuing our strong, independent, and innovative tradition. We thank our Ortho II family of clients for their trust and their business.

Our Company Mission: “To help our orthodontic partners succeed.”
